YouTube is probably one of the most popular sites in forums of its type and for a very long time it was only used as a social tool or for making entertainment videos of music and film related themes or videos of pranks and videos of sport activities gone wrong. Recently however, YouTube has become a respected forum by many in almost all sectors.
In the music and film industries, there have been overnight celebrities who achieved their popularity by posting their videos on YouTube. There are several well known Hollywood stars who started their journey on YouTube and these include people like Justin Bieber being the most known, Soulja Boy, and Rebecca Black are others who have benefited through Youtube videos as have Sophia Grace and Rosie. As a demonstration that YouTube videos receive global viewership, the artiste Psy, from Korea, has become world renown for his ‘Gangnam style’ video which had a viewership of over a billion views. Many cats and dogs have also become celebrities in their own right due to unique feats that they perform or just for their cuteness.
In the Academic circles YouTube videos have their place. For instance, a lecturer can just post tutorials on the work that should be covered in the course work which students can view so that at the time of the lecture the students will have a rough an idea of the lecture. This is especially great for technical units like medicine and engineering where a perusal before class will help in the understanding of the material presented during the lecture. Examples of such videos are videos of complex surgical operations or how to take apart and put back together various types of engines.
In the Manufacturing sector, diverse procedures which have not been patented can be put in videos and discussed upon by manufacturers on methods that will improve production. The videos can also show how certain products are made and the materials that go into the making of the same products.
In Business, YouTube is also having a major impact. Traditionally, advertising was done through print or through radio and television. Media forums had largely shut out small and medium enterprises who could not afford the money payable to buy airtime for advertisement. With the development of technology, both small and medium sized enterprises can reap from the bounty that is offered through a large and global market. This is an opportunity that does not cost an arm or a leg. Through forums like YouTube such business people can let their target market know what they have to offer.
Agriculture and related fields have also put up their own videos on how to grow crops or improve production. Using videos people are able to see just how much can be achieved with genetic modification of plants and animals.
YouTube has also had impact in other sectors and one just as has to search videos in their field or niche.
